At Home with
August West
Welcome to The Bamboo House, a one-of-a-kind home built in 1966 by renowned hairdresser Paul McGregor. Today, his granddaughter, August West, is bringing the bohemian Fire Island house back to life–one piece of bespoke art at a time.
“He was always my style icon and creative muse. He taught me everything I know about what it means to be a creative person.”

About Paul
As a renowned hairdresser in the 1970s, Paul Mcgregor is responsible for Jane Fonda’s iconic shag haircut. You know the one. The Bamboo House was his playground, filled with handmade wood sculptures, paintings, and more.
“I could talk all day about what each of these means to me. But now, hanging them in their proper place in the home, it feels like they’re getting the attention that they deserve.”
